Originally an Alaska Native settlement, a salmon cannery was constructed in Excursion Inlet in 1891.
The current cannery, built in 1918, is today owned and operated by Seattle's Ocean Beauty Seafoods
taking advantage of the rich fishing grounds just outside the inlet in Icy Strait.
A small museum at the cannery chronicles its history and that of the Inlet. In addition to the cannery, a handful of cabins occupy the shores of Excursion Inlet. Air Excursions dba Alaska Seaplanes provides three scheduled flights per week to Excursion Inlet in the summer, and once a week in the winter.
