The “Adventure Capital of Alaska,” Haines is an outdoorsman’s paradise. Fishing, rafting, kayaking, jet-boating, bear watching, and even heli-skiing—Haines has something for everyone.

Haines occupies a peninsula bordered by the Chilkat River to the North and Lynn Canal to the South, a long fjord that stretches from Juneau to Skagway. Haines is nestled below a majestic mountain backdrop, with the Chilkat mountain range rising up behind it. Because of its location, Haines enjoys drier weather than most of southeast Alaska with far fewer precipitation days than Ketchikan, Sitka or Juneau.
The Tlingit village of Klukwan, approximately 20 miles outside of Haines, has been a native settlement for centuries. So long have native people lived in Kulkwan, that its Tlingit name means “forever village.” The new Klukwan Tribal tour is an excellent way to explore the village and learn more about Tlingit history and culture.
Alaska Seaplanes offers up to seven scheduled wheel plane flights per day to Haines in the summertime, and three per day in the winter. In the summer, with a Lynn Canal-based airplane and pilot, we offer convenient schedules that match up well with all Alaska Airlines departures and arrivals in Juneau.
