North of Juneau lies Excursion Inlet. Surrounded by majestic scenery and wildlife this small community is perfect for fishing. Excursion Inlet is the place to go for a spectacular fishing adventure where fishers of all levels can catch the fish of a lifetime.
Originally an Alaska Native settlement, a salmon cannery was constructed in Excursion Inlet in 1891. A major barge terminal was built in Excursion Inlet during the World War II ear by the United States Army. The barge was capable of handling large ocean-going cargo ships and was built to serve as a logistics base but overtime was dismantled. Today some of its buildings still stand as part of the cannery.
Excursion Inlet also contains a fishing cannery that was built in 1918 and still functions today. The cannery, Ocean Beauty Seafoods, processes pink salmon, chum salmon, salmon roe, salmon caviar, halibut, and sablefish.
Visitors can partake in an unforgettable fishing trip at Doc Warner’s Alaskan Adventures. Fish in fresh or salt water with self-guided or charter fishing, or go along for the ride and snap some amazing photographs while on the water.
