About Skagway

Located in the northern point of Inside Passage and 100 miles north of Juneau lies the community of Skagway. The streets of this village are lined with boardwalks and the buildings are restored with historic false-fronts.

Visitors to Skagway can often find locals dressed in period costumes as part of the National Park Service. With its scenery, history, and culture Skagway is an excellent place for travelers to visit

    For disc golf enthusiasts, Seven Pastures Disc Golf Course is located in a woodsy area. It is a short and flat course with 18 holes.

    During the Yuletide season, Skagway celebrates with a tree-lighting ceremony, caroling, a Yuletide Ball and a Santa Train. Along with the long summer days, the Skagway Elks Club hosts a summer solstice celebration with food, games, live music and a traditional beer garden.
    Also in the summer is the 4th of July celebration that includes a parade, street fair, and a ducky derby.
    In September the Klondike Road Relay runs every year from Skagway to Whitehorse. The race covers a physically challenging terrain and beautiful scenery where runners are often treated to starlit nights and the northern lights.

    Hiking

    There are plenty of hiking trails to follow in Skagway. Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park and Lower Dewey Hiking Trail are some popular options. There are guided services as well, such as those provided by Packer Expeditions.

    Skiing

    In March skiers travel to Skagway from around the globe to participate in the annual Buckwheat Ski Classic, an international cross-country skiing race. If you’re looking for a more gut-wrenching experience, there are guided heli-skiing services available.
